Speaking only for myself, of course, I don't fear going to my dentist one bit. I like the idea of laying back, getting a good dose of nitrous oxide, and dreaming about bumble bees and flowers. Even a root canal is pleasant compared to seeing my physician, who is a very nice person by the way, except she can't stop preaching about the evils of smoking like I have never heard that before at 61 years of age. A root canal is nothing compared to a sermon about the evils of smoking or the evils of eating fat or the evils of anything else for that matter. I know she is only doing her job but enough is enough. I won't even mention the dreaded blood pressure test which is why I see her every time I turn around. At least I am paying for a health care PLAN (not health care insurance which is an oxymoron in my opinion but a real health care plan) so I shouldn't complain I guess.

Do you dread going to see your health care professional? If so can you offer some advice to them to make your experience more pleasurable. If I had to see a social worker I would most likely shoot myself but that is a different story.

An article from the heart.

Speaking of the heart, I am terrified of seeing my cardiologist. I'm just so afraid he'll listen and say, "Oh no!"

Right now, if I have another heart attack, the only reason I'll go to the hospital would be to get morphine, so I could die fairly easy... Other than that, let me go. Now, if it happens, I'll probably run screaming, "Save me, save me!" But right now, as of this minute, please just let me go. No more heart surgeries, no more hospitals, no more tubes running from my left knee to my right shoulder-- on the inside... :-)

My cardiologist is a fine man, a wonderful doctor and a really nice person. But when I even think about calling to make an appointment, my hands start shaking and I can't dial the phone... :-)

Yeah I know what you mean though I am only an amatuer with one heart attack under my belt.

Amen sister! The cardiologist is only one of the docs I fear. The neurologist, oncologist and pulmonologist give him a run for his "ogist" money.

My teeth are shot, he doesn't scare me anymore.

I am a nurse so health care stuff does not bother me. But I get VERY anxious when I have to go to the dentist. Even for a cleaning. I have to take a Xanax.

It's a family joke. I've never held any of our kids, grand kids, or great grandkids, until they were at least a month old. I've got a recliner, and they'll lay the baby on my chest, I wrap my arms around them, and we go to sleep. One of my son in laws found out, don't try and take the baby from me while I'm asleep. lol Put the fear of God in him. lol

I voted dentist. Hate going there the most.

I also hate going to the doctor and, having had to endure the social work thing to adopt, have no desire to repeat that any time soon. Neither scares me but are way high on my "annoying" list.

May sound a bit weird, but what really scares me is living too long. I worry about it a lot. People in my fam tend to live til they're about a zillion. I'm not looking to check out any time soon, but I'm hoping I don't end up being a zillion too.

Oh, dear Sydney, as long as you're happy and able to get around some and do some things you like to do-- I hope you get to live to be gadzillion years old! :-)

Sweet Dowser, Right back at you! A gazillion and feeling okay and having a full life is what I wish for you too... It's the being miserable and infirm and all alone in a nursing home thingie that scares me. Eww! At that point, I'd just want to go Home. :)

Me too! That scares me too. I don't want that for my mother, either. :-)

Yep, at that point, its time to check out and go Home. :-)

((((((((((Sydney))))))))))))) If you ever need help, you know you can call me and I'll be there. I understand very much how you feel. I've made hubby promise to help me if it gets to that. :-)

I would have to say the one that scares me the most is the proctologist(sp?). I just had a colonoscopy and ooooh was it fun. The day before was a real going thing. UUGHN!

I understand, near neenie. My dentist is a great guy-- but the only way I can get through his appointments is to say, "This can't be worse than open heart surgery..." :-)

I had a root canal, and, to be honest, it wasn't that bad... I think they knew I was terrified, so I had gas, and was really numb. Thank heavens!

I hate going to both the dentist and the doctor. Last year I went to the dentist for a check up and hadn't been in 20 years. He said, "I don't know what you're doing, but whatever it is you are doing a good job, keep up the good work. No cavities, no problems at all." So that will do me for another 20 years. I take vitamins and try to stay healthy so it must be working, I'm never sick, don't catch colds or viruses....and I can't remember the last time I was sick. So that helps me avoid doctors offices. Good thing since I don't have health insurance.

The dentist. Just the thought is Ugh! The smell. The sounds. The shots. I've had botched root canals that have had to be repeated. You name it, I'd rather go just about anywhere then to the dentist.

I like going to the dentist and I think it is because of the laughing gas which I get for everything including cleaning. I asked my physician if she could give me that during out little visits and by the look on her face I think she was ready to have me committed.

Dentist! Hands down. I have NEVER had a simple visit to the dentist. ALL the work I ever had done failed, re-done, failed. I'm just waiting for my teeth to all fall out of my head. Can't be worse than what I've gone through, although I have friends who would differ with me.

I just want to add that I've enjoyed reading here and the commaraderie (sp). It's very refreshing from some of the other threads.
