What do you really hate and I mean really hate?

I mean really really hate with all of the passion you can muster? What do you hate so much you foam at the mouth when confronting it? I am not talking about mere dislikes such as left lane bandits on the freeway or your ex-spouse but the real hate that consumes your soul. You know what I mean so go ahead and spout off if you want.

There are two things I hate so much I can barely write about them and they are eating fresh tomatoes and jazz. I have already preached enough about my hatred of fresh tomatoes so let me express my hatred of jazz. By the way I do not hate people who like tomatoes or jazz so let me get that straight. Everyone is entitled to their own tastes in food or music no matter how much it repulses me. This is not an article about the merits of jazz or tomatoes so please keep that in mind if you care to reply.

Let me talk about jazz a little if I may. They call it music, and techniqually they are correct as it is played on musical instruments but that is as far as it goes. There is no beat to it, no sense of rythym or nothing else. When I hear jazz I want to instantly commit suicide but so far have resisted. By the way I am not talking about Dixieland or Ragtime but the garbage they call modern jazz or whatever they call it. It sounds like nothing more than musicians practicing to be real musicians and I can live without it. Once a friend of mine, who liked jazz, told me my problem was that I had never heard good jazz, so instead of saying "there is no such thing" I agreed to go with her to a Seattle bar that was noted for it's jazz. Without mentioning the name of the performer (she is quite famous and is not Kenny G) I felt the cold sweat break out when she started singing and it only got worse. It was a near death experience. So there, I have heard "good jazz" and if anything it is even worse than bad jazz.

This is not an article about jazz, unless you want it to be, but more of a chance to spout off about whatever. Thank you.

Hate to admit- but I never cared for Jazz myself- I know that makes me unsophisticated etc- my dad loves it- the closest I ever got was night in Tunisia when Cosby had an episode about it and I listened to it- it was pretty good.

No beatin required. Moldy Fig Jazz is mighty fine. Anything after the 40's sort of leaves me cold.

I am far too lazy to be able to bubble up true hate. Well, unless you mess with family, dawg or the weak......

So I'll have to paraphrase from an unremembered documentary I saw back some time in the mists of the past:

"There's three thangs I hate. Skeeters, Kudzu and city livin."

Kudzu I kinda like. Especially in the winter when Kudzu Skeletons abound......

Anyhow, so there you have it.......

ok here's a little song that some of my high schools buddies adapted to

Tom T. Hall's tune 'I love'

<ahem, clears throat>

I hate.... hardons when they fall

a half finished ball

people who squeeze tits

and zits

I hate.... hairy holes in butts

old men's saggy nuts

a crusty cun t with scabs

and crabs

and I hate you too

cant remember the rest of the verses (thank god--ewww huh?)

No one better hurt a child, an animal, or any helpless person in front of me... That is something that gets to me faster than anything else.

Other than that, I can't think of anyone or anything that I truly hate. I'm not fond of some things, but don't hate them...

I'm with Dowser and Isabella. Anyone who hurts kids or animals. Those are the only people I just flat out hate.

I'm not fond of bullies, but, unless the bully is hurting a child or an animal, I just dislike them really, really intensely.

Also I hate the sound of someone chewing something like an apple or pretzels. Crunching. Eeeewww! Sheer torture.

I have to chime in with Isabella, Dowser and Sydney. ..Harming the innocent and less capable, people and animals.

There are a lot of things I dislike, but not much is worthy of hate.

I am with you there. The harming of something innocent is beyond my ability to let go. If anyone had molested my children, I would have killed them and thought about it later. I would say instead of hate I have a high level of complete disgust for people like Beck who claim honor while lying. They too are hurting innocent people by a con game using mind and heart. Digust/hate I suppose the line between can sometimes be blurred.

Landspirit, good point on how that disgust/hate line can be blurred by the corruptions of our leaders; those kind of con games run the gamut - I feel sorry for them more than hate; in their efforts to deceive us, they are using self-deceit (or so appears), and eventually their true character is exposed and we can vote them out.

Phantom isn't opera technically. That would be like calling Gilbert and Sullivan musicals opera. I only like a couple operas enough to go see them (La Traviata is probably my favorite because I've actually done the show), but it's hard to follow unless they have captioning above or beside the stage (some theaters do that, which makes it a LOT more enjoyable).

Now CHINESE operas...well I worked in a theater that had at least one per month and I swear I never developed a liking for pots and pans being beat and cat-like singing!

I don't mean the people who foolheartedly believe they aren't bigots... they're just misled. But the unrelenting, unwavering, outward bigots who project racism onto others, those people... bleh.

The only one I sanction is a deep and abiding discrimination against willful ignorance, the essential ingredient to all other bigotries except this one. I can't claim to hate it but I dislike it and all the damage it does enough to be willing to wage war over it, considering it is ignorance fueled bigotry in one form or another that threatens humanity's ability to survive.

There is some jazz that is certainly an acquired taste, but the range of music style within the Jazz genre is so wide that I think saying you hate all Jazz may not be entirely accurate. I think the same may be said for classical music. I work with a bunch of classical music snobs, you know the ones that believe their kids are smarter because they played Mozart to them inutero. I am no audiophile, but actually play a number of instruments. I appreciate the complexities of certain music, but that does not make it ethereal and enlightening.

I would imagine Darrah wears a burkha & never leaves her home without a male escort. I love LG, Madonna, Cher & Mae West, women who demonstrate all that is Good and Beautiful about America. But hypocrites and fundamentalist religious fanatics (often the same thing) are the peeves of which I pet AND hit the streets to protest. If it were up to me I'd demand a religious test of everyone I do business with, so I don't have to support the fanatics who would kill their children in the name of an invisible spaghetti monster.

Woah, woah, woah, I was kidding people, pump the breaks. Darrah is a good friend of mine and you folks are going nuts because I made a joke!

I say this as an experienced musician and audio engineer: Lady Gaga is talentless and offers nothing of value to popular culture whatsoever. I agree wholeheartedly with Darrah's assertion that Lady Gaga is well worthy of hatred. And as a person who hasn't drank anything alcoholic since 2003 (not because of addiction or anything, but simply by choice and because I enjoy thinking too much to dull myself with intoxication), I can totally understand why she feels the way she feels about drunks as well. Both of Darrah's statements are perfectly legitimate, and her opinion hurts no one (and here, I'll refrain from making the same joke twice, since it apparently went over a few heads).

I love LG, Madonna, Cher & Mae West, women who demonstrate all that is Good and Beautiful about America.

They do NOT demonstrate all that's "good and beautiful" about anything. With the possible exception of Mae West, they exemplify everything that's wrong with America. I'm going to say this, and I don't expect anyone to back me up here, but this is my honest opinion... Lady Gaga, Madonna, and Cher have literally no value whatsoever. They aren't physically attractive, they don't/ can't write their own songs, and the real kicker... they can't sing! In fact, none of them have released an album since 2000 without deploying auto-tune technology. How Lady Gaga got a recording contract is a mystery. Meanwhile, Madonna was a teenage sensation who simply refuses to retire, and Cher is less woman than machine these days. They exemplify capitalism in its purest form, and little else.

And another thing, perhaps you should try reading any of the myriad of comments Darrah has left in response to any number of articles on the Vine, in which her views of religion have been clearly and distinctly pointed out for all to see. Though I suppose it's easier to simply make brash assumptions about a persons character than it is to put in any legwork.

                  Point, Set, Match.

Basically, when I referred to drunks, I should have stipulated "drunk drivers."

I enjoy having one too many drinks during the holidays, but I don't drink and drive. How many people die due to drunk drivers?

I've seen/ heard Evita, and I'm still not impressed by Madonna's singing. She has range, but she lacks depth, like so many other singers these days. I'll take one Thom Yorke, Jeff Buckley, Matthew Bellamy, or Beth Gibbons over an army of Lady Gaga, Madonna, Cher, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, and Justin Timberlake clones!

Here's the real kicker: I could take almost any of you folks into my recording studio for a few hours and make you sound as good as Madonna. Computer software can work miracles these days, lol :)

OMG- I worked with a surgeon who loved BG- his favorite was butterbean. He took way too long to do anything so I had to listen to it incessantly. As a joke one of my favorite surgeons brought in a BG cover of Led Zepplin- it would be some ok cover then it would break out into BG- very funny.

Having USED text speak in this post, I am appropriately shamed. I hate it, too. It demeans the purpose of language altogether.

Didn't we evolve from monosyllabic grunts to eloquence, only to find we're trying to grow hair on our backs, losing our communication edge, and acting like maniacs again?

Of course we did, and we have developed children so hyper intelligent that they now know how to write so the average parent can't understand it. They are phasing out overprotective, overbearing, control-freak parents by using a whole new language.

Besides....laziness plays a part. Why go thru 10 motions to write a word when you can use 3?

I agree with you. I hate blog-speak. Any short-cuts detracting from civility and correct learning that reduces us to a lazy societyis my pet peeve.

When did we go from an educated society to this intentional adaptation of being uneducated.

I hate rap music. I don't believe in ebonics.

Why waste time spending money to educate your children if you do not insist on proof of what they have learned? Especially when it should show the correct useage of the english language.

And when I witness some of writing styles of the some of the posters on certain sites, I practically lose interest in their message. But as Soph says don't dismiss something just because you have a prejudice against agreeing with it.

Debate. Debate. Debate. I LOVE to debate!!!

As Dolly Parton, speaking as 'Truvy' in Steel Magnolias, suggestively slurred, "Nyow thyat's whut budders mah breyed!"

The better half is all wound up about this is the most divisive time in our history- I don't think so. But I still don't like it- I would like for people to be a little nicer as they are ripping each other to shreds. When Obama puts republicans down and the republicans belittle the dems- how can they work together??

Fla Pat @ 20: I've been going through that same thing with my car. They just did a 105,000 mile check up, changed all gaskets from the rear main seal all the way to the valve cover gasket, changed all the fluids, alignment, brakes, they did it all! It's been back 3 times in 4 weeks to fix something else--it's getting very expensive and I'm getting very annoyed. Sometimes I think they are sabatoging my car while it's in the shop so they can maintain their revenues.

                                        Asparagus.

                                        It tastes exactly like dirt.

100% disagree! I could eat my weight in asparagus - that would be expensive however.

Spiders, pickles, and the fact that human beings can't fly.

if it's atonal, it's not in a key.

Ok, unharmonious, minor chords organ noise, with absolutely no resolve, no direction, until finally it stops.
