When I was growing up my parents grew tomatoes in the back yard and forced us kids to eat a fresh tomato slice with every meal. One of the low points of my childhood was the gagging and retching of trying to get that terrible tomato slice down. I have never hated eating something so much and still will not eat a fresh tomato to this day though I love all tomato products. It is the fresh ones that make me retch no matter how good they are good for my health. I also want to add turnips and beets to my hate list. If they would make me live to 100 I still wouldn't eat them. Life is too short to subject ones self to dietary torture.

It seems that vegetables/fruits lead the list for food that makes you healthy yet many people will not eat. What are your most disliked healthy foods? Oh yeah I forgot to mention brown rice and buckwheat groats. Those smell and taste like a wet dog.

Poll does not have the "I don't hate anything" option. There really isn't anything I won't eat except guacamole.

I had haggis when I was in Scotland a few years ago. I figured I had to at least try it. It was actually quite good.

I actually like vegetables, brown rice and most other things that are generally disliked. I think that people who dislike healthy things need to grow up and realize that nutrition is more important then "liking" a food.

BTW I want to thank Polka14 for inspiring me to write this crummy article.

What did I do? Why did you write a "crummy" article?

Polka you made me think about the things I eat and the things I don't eat with your comments in my bacon article. All of my articles are crummy. Ask anyone and thanks for inspiring me even if I do eat bacon.

I am sorry if I made anyone sad. This is me right now. :( I only wrote my opinions that expressed how I feel about humans killing and eating animals. You did not have to write a crummy article about your diet.

Geez, Polka, lighten up a little.

Merle, I am that rare beast who has only a vague understanding of what is good for me and what isn't, and who has no desire to be educated on the subject. I eat what I like, period. If that mentality puts me in my grave at 62 instead of 82, I could not care less.

Broccoli and other vegetables are the best. Some of my favorite healthy foods are probably Gojiberries and Quinoa grain. Acaiberry juice is not too good tasting but it is healthy too.

Fresh cukes and tomatoes sprinkled with sea salt, pepper, squeeze of fresh lemon juice.

No onions, beets, turnips, Kollard greens, Okra, peppers, brussel sprouts, lima beans, rhubarb, mushrooms (although a marinated, grilled Portobello is yummy), seafood (fish)

Cannot imagine how hungry I would have to be before I would ever try okra again! I know some people love it, but I can't stand the slimy stuff! Lima beans, also not so much. But I do love beets, squash, fresh tomatos, and turnips.

Yep Cookin mamma I know onions are in many foods. I dont sit there and pick them out if I cant see them but if they are obvious (like chunks, etc) I will not pick them out but I just wont eat them or if I can I ask if the chef can leave the onions out. When I was a kid if I even smelled onions I wouldn't eat the meal. So I'm a lot better now LOL

I love cukes but I cannot stand pickles. Anything pickled. Its the vinegar. Gag! I would have to be about to chew on my fingers before I ate pickles LOL

                                  Park

I have never had a fried or crispy Portobello. I'll have to try it. Not crazy, I can't stand mushrooms yet I'll indulge in a Porto LOL

I had a similar occurrence but my mom had prepared the meal. I politely asked to make my own meal and she allowed me to do so. However, the disappointment and hurt in her eyes almost converted me to the fungaleaters

i hated mushrooms as a kid and green peppers. then a cousin served them raw in a salad. i liked them after that. Now i use mushrooms and peppers in lots of dishes. i have a friend who dislikes onions, so i made her some of my chicken salad without it. potabellas are meaty tasting. morels that is my fave so earthy tasting. button are bland.

Boy Susi - you sure have a long list, although I am with you on the majority of your dislikes, I will not do mushrooms of any sort, they make me think I am chewing on a rubber band. And another thing I will not do is shellfish of any sort. No shrimp, lobster, crab, mussels of any thing else that has a shell on them. The smell, taste and texture are disgusting IMO. :p

But I love liver and onions

LOL Rick. Yeah, Mushrooms are are rather rubbery and mushy. It's a texture thing. Same with onions......truth be known it's that lil squeeky noice they make that just makes me twitch lol.

I can't do fish (I got horrendous food poisoning as a kid and the body has quite the amazing memory reflex). I can eat Shrimp, Conk Fritters and sometimes Scallops but that's it. No crab or lobster.

Ewwww. No liver. Good Lord. I was forced fed the stuff as a kid.

                                      Bleeeeh!

Liver and onions, eeewww. My mom made us eat it once a month growing up. There is not enough ketchup in the world to cover up that taste. I used to not like fish at all only shellfish. I have learned to like some mild tasting fish and so has my husband because it is good for you.

Here is SW MO the Stoneyfield Organic is usually the best I can find....but I like the Yoplait French Vanilla...and my husband will eat it instead of ice cream - which is a good thing. He is lactose intolerant and ice cream seems to affect him more than yogurt.

Stoneyfield? Really? Cool. I thought it was a VT-ish thing. It's what we eat, too. Lemon ane lime are my favorite flavors.

Greek yougurt. Yum. Greek almost anything. Yum.

I haven't tried the lemon and lime (not in my stores)....my choice is either plain or vanilla...and I like the vanilla. I even add it to my brownies and oatmeal cookie recipes...and sometimes to my banana cake recipe....and keep them in the frig after baking. It adds moistness, and just a hint of flavor.

Vanilla's my next fave. I stir in teeny chunks of almonds. The peach is pretty good too.

eek! That used to be my sentiment, also. It has only been the last couple of years that I "learned" to like yogurt. I can also drink milk now....something I always disliked intensely...although I loved ice cream, cheese, butter and sour cream.

Love ice cream, love milk in my coffee when I have an iced coffee or hot chocolate. Cheese only when its melted and mostly Parmesan, Jack, American. Cream cheese only in cheesecake LOL

Why will you not eat tomatoes? Is it psychological? I know someone that had a traumatic experience with brussel sprouts and will not eat them anymore.

I do not eat fresh tomatoes because the taste makes me want to puke. There is nothing psychological about putting a foul tasting substance in one's mouth.

Tomatoes doesn't taste bad. You probably ate a rotten tomato once years ago and now your brain translates any tomato taste to the taste of the bad tomato. Please do not take offense to what I said; it is simply that psychology is a fundamental reason for people's likes and dislikes. If I am correct, you simply do not remember the psychological trauma that you encountered.

                                                    It should not taste bad.

If only everyone had the same interpretation/reaction to tastes.

I have a biological problem that makes almost all vegetables taste bitter/foul. Although the veggies that are most often not liked, such as lima beans, sweet peppers, sweet onions and beets, I can tolerate. (I don't love them but I can and will eat them.) Others, such as brussel sprouts, broccoli, tomatoes, asparagus just make me gag. I feel the same about most fruits although I like apples and bananas.

I drink and cook with almond milk - cow's milk makes me gag (it always smells spoiled to me) and I've never tried a yogurt that didn't taste horrible. I like cheese - most kinds if they're not too strong.

Unfortunately I have never met a bread or pasta I didn't like.

It's not an easy way to live. If only broccoli tasted like chocolate and vice-versa!

Not really. I like lots of foods. But I do like some a whole lot more than others. Carrot cake better than tomatoes, for example. Brownies more than broccoli. If I ate as much of the things I really love I'd weigh 500 lbs., so I eat more of the foods I like less well - like veggies and fruits - and less of my absolute faves -carrot cake, brownies, and other goodies.

The foods I really don't like I don't eat. Plenty of other choices.

Not sure why anyone would eat something they do not like just because it's good for you. To many things I like that I can get the same N values out of.

Mama, Need to try strawberries from florida and some of our blackberries. Matter of fact having some smoked babyback ribs tommorow with home made blackberry BBQ sauce.

I smoke them and I use oak. Took 30 lbs to a local pub we go to and they were gone in about 15 minutes, had the owner scraping the bottom of the pan trying to get all the sauce. That was a fun night.

Th sauce we worked on for about 6 month to get it and the rub to work together. No complaint yet.

I wouldn't eat foods that I hated, whether they were good for me or not. Now, if I had some disease that could be cured by eating a certain food, I'd eat it whether I hated it or not - but, that's never been the case. ;0)

Luckily, I like almost everything. I adore tomatoes and eat them like you'd eat an apple (a bit messier, though).

I cant stand them. I rather die than ever eating. Ever since I was young my parents try to force me to eat them. But that was the only thing i refused to do. they try grounding me, hitting me, they even ask me to leave the house but that was the only thing i never gave in to."

Give me a fresh vegetable right out of the garden, or a cucumber still warm from the sun...... Life is bliss. Oh, and you can add a little "buckwheat" soba noodles to that mix and it makes it even better.
